Police got a call about the shooting at North Bond and East Eager streets about 2:12 p.m. and found two men: one who had been fatally shot multiple times throughout his body and another who had been shot in the face, said Officer Troy Harris, a police spokesman. The man who was shot in the face was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital and was in serious condition, Harris said.

Police received a call for a shooting in the 1100 block of Orleans Street just two blocks from Baltimore's main Post Office. There they discovered Marcel Mitchell, a 20-year-old African-American man from East Baltimore, lying in the street shot numerous times. Glenn Cunnigham, a 22-year-old African-American man from Pikesville, was found in the vestibule of an apartment complex in the block. He had also been shot several times. Cunningham was dead. Mitchell was taken to an area hospital but was dead by the time he arrived.

Less than an hour into 2009, a man lay bleeding on the cold ground in East Baltimore. Police took 2 men into custody. “I thought somebody was shooting for the New Year,” said resident Barbara Lee. Stunned neighbors peaked outside to see the chaos. Police said Mario Williams of Baltimore County, who just turned 31 years old on Christmas Day, got into an argument with a drunk bar manager inside Rumors at N. Luzerne Avenue and E. Monument Street. When the fight spilled outside, Police said someone in the crowd pulled out a gun and shot him. Phil Abdelrahaman said though Rumors is a trouble spot, he's owned his candy shop on Monument St. 3 years now with no issues. “I think most the problem when people come from outside not people in the neighborhood."
