Arrest on LELAND, LELAND, 28451, NC

10/18/2009 01:19 AM. Officer Lalonde witnessed the suspect vehicle driving recklessly through an intersection in the wrong direction. Upon an attempt to stop the vehicle, the suspect fled on foot into JW’s bar and hid in the bathroom. Officers had to enter the bar and remove suspect. A consent search of the suspect’s vehicle found a concealed wooden club and metallic knuckles. Suspect’s BAC was .06. Suspect was cited and vehicle was towed. Case#L09-902 DATE/TIME: 18 October 2009 at 0237 hrs. INCIDENT: DWI, Hit and Run, Improper turn, Driving left of center LOCATION: US 17 at Village Road & US 17 at Grandiflora Drive OFFICER: J. Lalonde/1531 SUMMARY: Officers were dispatched to a hit and run where the suspect’s vehicle struck a NC DOT highway sign on Hwy 17 at Village Road. The suspect continued to travel South on Hwy 17 where Officer Lalonde found the vehicle near Grandiflora Drive. The suspect failed to signal then drove upon Grandiflora Drive on the wrong side of the road. Officer Lalonde stopped the vehicle and suspect, Eric Edward Hartley W/M DOB: 05-15-1972 of 1030 Cherrywood Court, Leland, NC admitted to hitting the sign. Officer Lalonde noticed the damage to the vehicle and smelled a strong odor of alcohol. The suspect was arrested and transported to BCDC Intox room where his registered BAC was .16 before he refused the second sample. Suspect was placed on a custody release bond and his vehicle was left at the scene. Case#L09-903 DATE/TIME: 18 October 2009 at 1541 hrs. O’Connor/1523 SUMMARY: The listed officer responded to the above location in reference to a motorcycle falling over in a parking lot and damaging a parked car.
