A 24-year-old man was taken into custody tonight after several shots were fired at a Newark police officer at a city public housing complex, authorities said. No officers were wounded by the shots fired at the 500-unit Baxter Terrace complex on Orange Street, and no officers returned fire, Detective Todd McClendon, a spokesman for city police, said late tonight. Samir Baker allegedly fired the shots at the officer about 4:30 p.m., the detective said. The officer was not identified by police. Baker then ran into a third-floor apartment, where he barricaded himself inside for more than two hours, McClendon said.
