A 21 year old Franklin Street resident reported that his cell phone had just been stolen by a male suspect at 503 South Cherry Grove Avenue. The victim told the officers that as he was coming out of the drug store, the suspect approached and asked if he could use his cell phone. The victim agreed and handed him his phone. The suspect then walked away with it towards Newtowne Drive. The victim followed until he lost sight of him as the suspect went into one of the apartment buildings. The victim was able to get a good description of the suspect. Officers were able to identify the suspect as Dametrees Maurekoe Short, 18, of 703 Newtowne Drive, based on the description as well as other information received from area residents. The officers went to the suspect’s house and found him inside. He was in possession of the stolen cell phone. He was arrested and charged with Theft. (08-006136)
