Theft - MARYLAND AVENUE, ANNAPOLIS, MD, UNITED STATES

2008-09-23

Officers responded for a hold – up alarm at a clothing store in the unit block of Maryland Avenue. When officers arrived, they observed the female shopkeeper struggling with a male in the doorway of the store. The male was restrained. The shopkeeper said that the suspect had come in with a female and the two were browsing. She then became aware that the male had concealed items of merchandise in a bag and about his person. She hit the store’s alarm, then engaged in tactics to try to keep the suspects in the store until officers arrived, such as by offering them brochures and further information about her product line. When the suspect saw the police, he bolted towards the door. The shopkeeper blocked his path and managed to delay him until the officers got there. Numerous items of clothing taken from the store’s display were recovered from the suspect. He was identified as Kevin Lyle Braxton, 44, of Baltimore. He was arrested and charged with Theft and Destruction of Property. (08-006034)
